It’s almost March, and you know what that means… International Women’s Month, Week, and Day! During the first week of March, Agency will be representing our feminist practice at several events. We hope you will join us in celebrating the impact of women in design this week.
Sunday – WxLA Black History Month Takeover Ends!
March 1 is the end of Black History Month and the beginning of International Women’s Week. In honor of this convergence, check out the results of the WxLA Black History Month Takeover! WxLA is an advocacy initiative for gender justice in landscape architecture founded by Agency’s Gina with Rebecca Leonard, Cinda Gilliland, Steven Spears and Jamie Maslyn Larson.
Monday – Architalx Tickets Go On Sale
Buy your tickets for Game On: Designing for a Level Playing Field – a lecture by Brie Hensold and Gina Ford on Monday April 13, at 6pm in Portland, Maine! Brie and Gina will share case studies of recent work that addresses urban inequities. Using a wide array of strategic as well as playful techniques and embracing design as a tool for purposeful change, Agency is shaping design practice, process and outcomes to help level the field.

Did you know that 2020 marks 100-year anniversary of women’s right to vote? Just one more great reason to vote (for your candidate of choice), if you haven’t already!
Wednesday – Diversity in Design: Cutting Against the Bias
On Wednesday, March 4, Gina Ford and Brie Hensold are speaking as part of Harvard GSD’s Diversity in Design dialogue series, established to advance conversations around difference and create space for diversity within the landscape of the Harvard GSD and the design fields. The conversation about gender in design practice often leans in on the challenges as opposed to the agency of women designers. Their talk, Cutting Against the Bias, will focus on gender as a creative driver in practice, a multi-faceted benefit in business, and a critical dimension of diversity in design.
Thursday – IMPACT: Women in Design Exhibition Reception
Join us for the opening reception of IMPACT on March 5 at 6pm at the BSA Space in Boston! This special event is the first opportunity to explore the exhibition with the 20 years of Women in Design award winners, including Agency’s co-founder Gina Ford in 2019. As part of the exhibition, we created a fun, interactive constellation that reflects the universe of people who have influenced Gina Ford’s intergalactic design journey. Consistent with Agency’s ethos, this piece celebrates the community that is made in the making of work and the joy of co-creation. Sunday – Each One Makes: Hands-on Design Activities
On International Women’s Day from 12-3pm, Leah Grossman and Xi Yang will represent Agency at Each One Makes: Hands-on Design Activities Inspired by International Women’s Day. Led by designers from the Women in Design (WID) community, children age 5-14 are invited to celebrate International Women’s Day and the 2020 theme #EachforEqual as they explore, create, and design with professionals from design firms across Boston. This is also a great chance to see the IMPACT exhibition! The event is free and open to the public – RSVP here!
