Celebrating BSLA Wins for Landscape and Planning

At the Boston Society of Landscape Architects’ Design Awards Gala on May 11, 2023, we celebrated the 2023 BSLA design award winners, including The Franklin Park Action Plan, which won an honor award in analysis and planning, and Sarasota’s The Bay, which won a merit award in general design.

About The Franklin Park Action Plan, the Jury said, “The Jury felt this project is a compelling refinement of the historical Olmsted legacy, displaying a thoughtful, simple, and poetic design that continues the picturesque aesthetics. Maintains respect for original design while adapting to community needs and ecological health, using clear and practical action items. Utilizes beautiful representations and graphics to support the analysis and community feedback through the implementation.”

Congratulations to the Franklin Park Action Plan team! The Franklin Park Action Plan is an effort spearheaded by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and led by Reed Hilderbrand in collaboration with Agency Landscape + Planning and MASS Design Group and a broad team of ecology, engineering, economic, and engagement experts. Agency led the public engagement, planning, and programming.

The Jury said this about Sarasota’s The Bay: “The jury found the project offers a great place-making with a mix of programs for different ages and sizes of groups. The experience of moving through the mangrove and the preserved large tree is mesmerizing. The integration of ecological elements is particularly impressive, with the incorporation of low-tech methods and the restoration of mangroves showcasing a commitment to sustainability.”

Congratulations to Sarasota’s The Bay team! The Bay is a partnership between The Bay Park Conservancy, The City of Sarasota, Jon F. Swift Construction, DreamLarge, owner’s representative Jenn Stutler, and the Agency team, including: Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors, Kimley-Horn, Sasaki, HLB Lighting, Studio Ummo, Engineering Matrix, Moffatt & Nichol, Cummins Cederberg, HR&A Advisors, Monstrum, and Zaragunda. Special pop-up elements brought to the waterfront thanks to Dix.Hite and The Urban Conga.
