The Bay Wins Big at ASLA Florida

We were in Miami on July 27-29 for the ASLA Florida 2023 Annual Conference. In the midst of a whirlwind of activities at the Conference, Sarasota’s The Bay was honored with an Award of Excellence and the Frederic B. Stresau Award in open space!

FREDERIC B. STRESAU AWARD
The Frederic B. Stresau Award is named in honor of Fred Stresau, who is considered by many to be the father of Florida Landscape Architecture. The award is bestowed annually by the ASLA Florida jury to the professional award of excellence recipient that best exhibits innovation and design excellence. These works are truly exceptional and collectively contribute to enhance our body of knowledge.

Congratulations to the whole team! And congratulations to all the other award winners.

Following the exhilarating awards ceremony, on Saturday, July 29, Agency’s Susannah Ross presented on a panel about The Bay, with The Bay Park Conservancy, Inc, Cummins | Cederberg, Kimley-Horn, and Sasaki.

Building a Resilient Sarasota Bay Park
The Bay is a community, city, and park conservancy initiative that aspires to transform 53 acres of city-owned land into a signature public park on Sarasota Bay. This panel will present the story of the Bay – from its award-winning community-driven master planning effort to the detailed design of the site and its operations to the opening of its first 10-acres of park space. Emphasis will be on transformation of the site from gray infrastructure and parking lots to a green-blue oasis including mangrove restoration, innovative green infrastructure and post-implementation monitoring.
