Soaking up the Rain in Lowell at the Sponge Park Block Party

Even in the rainy fall weather, the Fall Block Party in Lowell was a vibrant and cozy evening of fun!

Agency collaborated with the City of Lowell Department of Planning and Development, Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust, University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and other City partners to continue the momentum of the Saint Louis Sponge Park project.

Approximately 130 community members gathered, enjoying Colombian street food from Mira Ve, a woman-owned Lowell business, cider from Downtown Lowell staple Brew’d Awakening Coffeehaus, and hours of tunes from local DJ Ricky Hai. Folks from Lowell’s Department of Public Works dropped in to spread the word about stormwater management along the river. This event welcomed the Community Liaisons, who have joined the team since July’s Community Cookout. The Liaisons conversed, answered questions, and gathered ideas. And despite the misty weather, kids jump-roped, hula-hooped, and blew plenty of bubbles!

Attendees explored towers featuring the newest design concepts and multilingual descriptions in Spanish, Khmer, and Portuguese. A 3D model of the park displaying these new ideas allowed the community to share feedback on where they would like to learn, play, and connect in the park.

We are so grateful for the time, ideas, and feedback the Lowell community has offered! In case you missed it, you can still check out the 3D model on display at City Hall in the coming weeks. Visit saintlouisspongepark.com to stay in the loop!

The team includes Hisel Flynn Architects, CHA, Studio Ummo, HLB Lighting, Nitsch Engineering, Moffat & Nichol, Tetra Tech, RSE, and Bryony Roberts Studio.
