Agency is spearheading the design of Shipyards West Park, collaborating with a diverse team of designers, planners, engineers, and engagement specialists. Our efforts build upon previous initiatives and enhancements led by the City of Jacksonville, the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA), and their partners.
The 10-acre Shipyards West is positioned to be a vibrant park in a string of public spaces that reconnect the city to its waterfront and river activity. Upon completion, the park will offer gathering spots for exploration of nature, recreational activities, learning about the city’s shipbuilding history, honoring local heroes, and enjoying leisurely meals with friends while admiring the beauty of the St. Johns River.
Noteworthy features of this waterfront park include a versatile events pavilion, a central lawn adaptable for various activities, a playground nestled within a hillside, ticketing services for the fire museum and USS Orleck, a sandy beach area, and recreational rooms for family gatherings and games. Additionally, a river walk extending half a mile connects Shipyards West Park to other riverfront destinations along the north shore of the St. Johns River, including Memorial Park, the Riverfront Plaza (currently under construction), and the future site of Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History.
The Agency team includes WXY, Haskell, Acuity Design Group, DVDL, ETM, Fluidity Design Consultants, HLB Lighting Design, JLP+D, Mechling Engineering & Consulting, Meskel & Associates Engineering, Moffatt & Nichol, and Smith Surveying Group.
