Downtown Bozeman is the cultural heart of a rapidly growing city and region. It is the location of cherished buildings and businesses, hosts events and festivals, sustains a destination restaurant and entertainment scene, has attracted three significant hotel projects and has a steady pipeline of new projects. Downtown’s success is tied to its strong sense of place, which has been nurtured in recent years by a healthy economy, a careful balance of tourism with local livability and a clear framework for investment laid out in the 2009 Downtown Improvement Plan.
The 2018 Downtown Improvement Plan Update (the 2018 Plan) will build on this planning history and recent energy to lay out a clear vision and flexible framework for the next decade. It will solidify Downtown’s identity within the growing region and define actionable projects and first steps for near and long-term implementation. Successful downtowns contain a diverse mix of uses, encourage interaction, and create unique experiences that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. Planning for this lively context requires integration of multiple elements; land use, development density and form, public space, streetscape, transportation, natural resources and infrastructure must be aligned. At the same time, the Plan will allow room for the unexpected to occur, fostering the spark of spontaneity and play that make for great downtownenvironments.Project Images
