Latta Place is Moving Toward Implementation!

Over the past month, Agency has shared a detailed design for Latta Place  – a historic plantation outside of Charlotte, North Carolina – with the broader community and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. We are happy to announce that the work has received the support it needs to move into construction documentation and implementation.

Last week, the leadership team, process, and plan all drew praise from the Mecklenburg Board County Commissioners, including Leigh Altman, at-large commissioner and vice chair. She shared:

“When you, as a community, handle something with such sensitivity and such pain, the reverberations of which are still with us today, it is a holy endeavour, especially when telling the truth seems to be under assault everywhere. It really feels like we are a haven.”

The design for Latta Place features an interpretive trail and visitors center that will reckon with the past while looking toward the future. Agency is working alongside Mecklenburg County, with help from an interdisciplinary team, including the core design team of Perkins&Will, Kimley-Horn Associates, and The Design Minds; construction management support from Elford Construction; and expert contributions from Liz Sargent, Sean Dunlap, Kofi Boone, McIntosh Poris Architects, HLB and more.

Hopefully documentation will be completed by the end of the year and construction can commence soon after. Check out our project page and stay tuned for more!
