Join us in Nashville for Wharf Park’s Final Public Meeting on January 10

Metro Parks and Metro Planning will hold a joint public meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. to discuss Wharf Park Master Plan and 88 Hermitage feasibility study. This is the final opportunity for the residents and stakeholders to provide input on the master plan and influence the future of this essential new riverfront park.

Alongside the Wharf Park plan reveal, Metro Planning will kick off the feasibility study for potential future uses of the Tennessee African American School for the Blind located at 88 Hermitage Ave, adjacent to the future Wharf Park.

This meeting is the third and final public presentation of the Wharf Park Master Plan. The previous two meetings took place in August 2021 and January 2022. You can see the summary and public comments on the meetings here: Wharf Park Master Plan | Nashville.gov.  It is the first meeting for the Planning Commission to seek input regarding 88 Hermitage.

Wharf Park is an approximately 25-acre undeveloped property on the Cumberland River near downtown Nashville. In early 2020, Metro Parks launched a master planning process to collaborate with the community to establish a vision for the site’s future. The master planning process was frozen during most of the COVID-19 shutdown. In the spring of 2021, Metro Parks relaunched the project. Among the amenities deemed appropriate for Wharf Park are fitness trails, outdoor fitness equipment, picnic shelters, playgrounds, sports fields, and a café. In addition to neighborhood park functions, the future Wharf Park is seen as Nashville’s best opportunity to develop a boathouse and rowing center on the Cumberland River.

88 Hermitage Avenue is a 2.59-acre parcel of land that will be used as a part of the development of Wharf Park, which includes a restoration and repurposing of the historic school and extension of the existing Rolling Mill Hill Greenway. In addition, a portion of this property will be utilized to create new affordable housing opportunities.
