Chicago Riverwalk wins a Global Award of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute.
The Chicago Riverwalk was named a 2017–2018 Global Awards for Excellence Winner by the Urban Land Institute. The project transformed underutilized space along the river’s main branch into a thriving and connected public space, overcoming significant technical challenges and utilizing innovative funding sources.
Speaking of the project and its impact on the city, Mayor Emanuel said, “The City of Chicago has always embraced our lakeshore like no other city and the Chicago Riverwalk has helped us embrace the Chicago River as the city’s newest recreational frontier. We are honored to be recognized for this effort on a global level and will continue to build on our success in generating economic growth for the city and creating new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.”
Agency’s Gina Ford was the design principal on phases two and three of the project – the recently completed segments – while with Sasaki.
