We’re excited to be working on the Boston Shadow Impacts Study, which focuses on the Back Bay Fens and surrounding development in Boston, MA. Shadows can cool the city and offer relief from summer heat, but they can also hinder plant growth and worsen icy conditions in winter. Sunlight is vital for social activities and some community members’ well-being. This project aims to balance the need for shade with the benefits of sunlight, using research and community input.
Our team, led by Boston Parks and the City of Boston Planning, includes Agency, Reed Hilderbrand, Buro Happold, Kim Chapman EcoLandscape, and Neighbor Architects. Our team will explore ways to improve the park’s landscape in a changing climate, integrating design, technical analysis, and public engagement to create a healthier, more vibrant space for all.
Stay tuned for project updates throughout the process!
